A Recipe That Followed Danny Home
Danny Cruz grew up two blocks from a South Philly steak window, working the counter on weekends for cash and a free lunch. His mother's family is from Medellín, and in 2019 he finally made the move back to Antioquia — bringing a decade of flat-top muscle memory with him.
What he couldn't find was the sandwich itself. So he tracked down a bakery willing to chase the Amoroso roll's crumb, imported a proper flat-top griddle, and started serving cheesesteaks out of a garage window to whoever wandered by. Two years later, Philly Steaks Medellín opened for real.
